While driving Thumbelina to preschool this morning, I saw a woman who looked like my mother from far away. Since we were passing the neighborhood near where she lives, it was plausible, but in the end, it wasn't her. I started thinking about all that she was missing out on. That when I do have another child, she'll never know him/her. Then I wondered if she were to die, would my sister and I go to her funeral?
I went to the bank afterward to cash a few checks. One of the checks was from my Godmother, for Girl Scouts. There was one teller at the window, and I honestly didn't bother to look at her nametag until a second teller appeared. The second teller had the same name as my Godmother. That wouldn't be strange, except for the fact that the first tellers name was the same name as my Godsister. Creepy.... I headed to Alice's school and dropped off her forgotten lunchbox.
I went home, and read online from an awesome mommy about a CVS makeup deal, so I left again to go buy some makeup before picking Thumbelina up for preschool. While getting ready to walk in the door, I notice an elderly man who looks so much like my maternal grandfather it hurts me. He died January 2, 2006. Not a few days before I met my husband. I hate he never got to meet him. I hope my grandfather approves.
I put Thumbelina down for her nap (no idea how this girl will make it through kindergarten. She loves her naps), and my father calls. Apparently my mother had called him, left a message wanting to get together in February to talk. I make jokes about it "My mommy and daddy are getting remarried!!!", we both laugh, and then go about our day. Or so I thought.
A few minutes later, my phone rings and I don't recognize the number. If my dad hadn't of called, I would have answered it, but I knew as soon as I saw it, who it was (according to google it''s not her, but they are WRONG). "Hey Peaches, it's your mom. Call me back!" As if the past 28 years never happened. I was prepared to let it go, but then she called back, and left a longer message. A vicious one. Saying if she ever saw my sister again she would kick her ass. How she doesn't know my nephew (insinuating she doesn't care for him), how if she were to die and we showed up to her funeral she would jump out of the casket and kill us both. So, I guess that answers the funeral question?
I called my dad to let him know the crazy had reached me, but I got his voicemail. He called me 20 minutes later to let me know he was on the phone with my mom. He was genuinely shocked that she left a message like that, as he had just gotten off the phone, and she was civil. Nice even! Why the sudden 180 from my message to his phone call?
Brick wall, meet my head.

That is...creepy. I don't know what kind of mental history your mother has, but I'm guessing that not all her synapses are firing right up there. I hope she doesn't know where you live, I'd hate to have a surprise visit form someone so unstable.
